DILLIMAX 690T
Dillinger's quenched and tempered high-strength steel brand. Equivalent to EN 10025-6 S690QL; with a minimum 690 MPa yield strength and −40°C toughness, it offers superior homogeneity especially in thick sections. Ex-stock delivery in the 8 mm – 120 mm range.
What Is DILLIMAX?
DILLIMAX is a quenched and tempered high-strength structural steel brand produced by the Germany-based Dillinger (AG der Dillinger Hüttenwerke). The DILLIMAX 690T grade belongs to the same class as S690QL in the EN 10025-6 standard: it guarantees a minimum 690 MPa yield strength and −40°C impact toughness.
What sets the DILLIMAX brand apart is Dillinger's expertise in thick plate production. Thanks to low impurity levels, a controlled melting process and balanced quenching, DILLIMAX 690T offers homogeneous mechanical properties and high toughness across the plate cross-section. This characteristic becomes a decisive advantage especially in heavy engineering applications where thick sections are preferred.
The DILLIMAX Steel Family
Dillinger offers a wide DILLIMAX range for different strength classes. As yield strength increases, the application field shifts toward projects requiring heavy loads and extreme strength:
| Grade | Min. Yield Strength | Standard / Class | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| DILLIMAX 690T | ≥ 690 MPa | EN 10025-6 S690QL equivalent | Cranes, bridges, chassis; toughness in thick sections |
| DILLIMAX 690E | ≥ 690 MPa | S690Q class variant | General high-strength construction |
| DILLIMAX 890 | ≥ 890 MPa | S890Q class | Mobile crane booms, heavy lifting equipment |
| DILLIMAX 965 | ≥ 960 MPa | S960Q class | Extreme strength; weight-critical boom structures |
Note: The table summarizes reference strength classes; thickness-dependent guaranteed values and detailed chemical composition are defined in the manufacturer's material certificate. Sacdan Adam mainly supplies DILLIMAX 690T; other classes can be sourced on request.
DILLIMAX 690T Advantages
The main technical advantages that distinguish DILLIMAX 690T from standard S690QL equivalents:
Toughness in Thick Sections
Thanks to a balanced quenching process, high impact toughness is maintained even in thick plates above 50 mm.
Low Impurity
Low sulfur and phosphorus levels through controlled melting; a cleaner microstructure and fewer defects.
Excellent Internal Cleanliness
Homogeneous internal structure in thick plates; high quality levels can be achieved in ultrasonic testing.
Weldability
A low carbon equivalent and clean structure allow reliable welding with low-hydrogen methods.
S690QL ⇄ DILLIMAX 690T
DILLIMAX 690T is Dillinger's branded counterpart of the EN 10025-6 S690QL grade. The two materials are considered equivalent in terms of standard, yield strength and impact temperature:
| Property | EN 10025-6 S690QL | DILLIMAX 690T |
|---|---|---|
| Standard / Class | EN 10025-6 | EN 10025-6 (S690QL) |
| Yield Strength (≤50 mm) | ≥ 690 MPa | ≥ 690 MPa |
| Tensile Strength | 770–940 MPa | 770–940 MPa |
| Impact Toughness | −40°C / ≥30 J | −40°C / ≥30 J |
| Key Advantage | Widely available equivalent class | Thick-section toughness + homogeneity |

Frequently Asked Questions About DILLIMAX 690T
Are DILLIMAX 690T and S690QL the same?
DILLIMAX 690T is the branded version of the EN 10025-6 S690QL grade produced by Dillinger. It is equivalent to S690QL in terms of standard, yield strength (≥690 MPa) and impact toughness (−40°C).
In addition, DILLIMAX 690T offers toughness and homogeneity optimized for thick sections. For this reason, it can be used interchangeably with S690QL in most projects.
Why is DILLIMAX preferred in thick sections?
In thick plate production, Dillinger delivers homogeneous mechanical properties across the plate cross-section thanks to low impurity levels and a balanced quenching process.
As a result, DILLIMAX 690T offers a toughness, internal cleanliness and homogeneity advantage especially in thick sections above 50 mm. The risk of internal centerline segregation and toughness drop sometimes seen in thick sections of standard production is reduced.
Can DILLIMAX be welded?
Yes. DILLIMAX 690T can be welded with low-hydrogen methods (MIG/MAG, TIG, submerged arc). Its low carbon equivalent and clean microstructure provide good weldability.
- Preheat: Thickness-dependent reference 100–200°C.
- Interpass: Maximum ~250°C.
- Filler: Matching or slightly undermatching consumable.
